A lab report is a document written to illustrate and investigate a laboratory experiment with a scientific concept. Lab reports enable students and professionals to conduct scientific research, evaluate theoretical explanations, evaluate research without prejudice, and communicate in an accurate and brief manner. Students provide as many explanations and findings as possible because one cannot rely on a single explanation for his or her findings. Even if, one’s findings do not support one’s hypothesis, they are still important. The findings are essential in the sense that they show that, within the contextual limitations of one’s study, one’s argument is not reliable. In addition, this provides an opportunity for others to investigate your theory under diverse conditions. While writing a lab report, a researcher may use unforeseen conditions or circumstances to help his or her results. A lab report should feature an abstract, an introduction, procedures, results and discussion, conclusion, and appendices.
However, there is no need to assume that this is the main structure of a lab report because some organizations use different formats for different experiments. Pay attention to the interactions provided by your instructor. The title page must feature as the first page. It contains the researcher’s name, name of instructor, date of performing the investigation or submission of the report, and the title of the experiment. The title ought to be brief, specific, and informative. An abstract presents a summary of the experiment. It should be concise, to achieve this, the writer can assume that the reader has some knowledge in the area but has not read the paper. It should not cite sections of the paper. The opening sentences should indicate the subjects dealt with in the paper in general and should state the objectives of the study. The body of the abstract must show newly observed facts and conclusions of the argument or experiment or argument discussed in the report.
In addition, it should indicate the experimental results and methods a student used to obtain them. The abstract should be one paragraph on its own page. It should not exceed 200 words. The introduction identifies the experiment a student undertook, the experiment’s objectives and importance, and the background for understanding the investigation. The background contains theoretical forecasts or predictions of the results. The introduction consists of only one paragraph. The procedures section also known as the methods section, demonstrates how the experiment was performed. This is necessary for others who want to perform the same experiment. It also helps the researcher to repeat the experiment if need be. Include those details that affect the outcome and those details that make your outcomes vary from those of other researchers. The results and discussion section is the center of a lab report. The two appear as separate sections but may also appear together when a student has many results to present. The results section shows the data without making any interpretations. Interpretations occur in the discussion section. When discussing the results, analyze them and discuss the implications of those outcomes. Include any errors that occurred in the experiment, their origin and their significance in interpretation and conclusion. Present numerical results in graphs, charts, or other necessary figures. The conclusions section should discuss the outcomes in the perspective of the whole experiment. It determines whether the experiment was a success by examining the objectives. The appendices may include tabular information that may not fit in the results section and graphs.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get someone to clean up their mess? You wouldn’t have to see it anymore, and you can get them to do their share of the housework. You may feel like you are struggling to clean, only to have them take over the surfaces you just cleaned with their mess. Many people have tried to get me to clean up my mess over the years. Most of them have been unsuccessful. But a rare handful has been successful from time to time. Although I hesitate to write this in case my family members read this hub, I will share the secrets about the ways people have gotten me to clean up my room, desk, or house. I will also share ways that will not work on me, so you can avoid the pitfalls. Before you start the process of getting someone else to clean something, you need to examine your motivation, and internalize some important facts. You may feel like your roommate, spouse, or family member is trying to annoy you and push all your buttons.
It might be true in your specific situation, but generally, someone who keeps a messy place is not doing it to get on your nerves. It doesn’t mean that they don’t care about you. It is very important that you do not view a messy place as an indicator of your relationship with that person. Realize that your messy husband has different priorities than you do. A sparkling clean house might be very important to you, but he might be more interested in earning more money by writing hubs, or keeping up to date on current events, sports scores and news. It’s not that he doesn’t want a clean house; it is just that a clean house isn’t as important to him as something else. Time is limited and his priority is different than yours. It isn’t fair for you to expect him to switch to your priority system when you aren’t willing to switch to his.
